Mozilla confirm next Firefox will be version 3.5(heise online, 05.03.2009 15:36) The next major Firefox release will be version 3.5, not 3.1, reflecting the wide range of features added to what was to be an incremental update.
In response to suggestions by developers, the much delayed Firefox 3.1 is to become Firefox 3.5 to reflect the "increased scope" of browser's next update. The notes from the Firefox developers say that the forthcoming beta 3 will still be shipped as Firefox 3.1 while the developers update their tools to switch to the new version number. The notes also indicate that the change in version number isn't indicative of "willingness to further increase scope". This should mean in practice that the current beta's new feature set will not expand. Firefox 3.1 was originally intended to be an incremental update to the Firefox browser, however, many additional features have been added to the release, including the new TraceMonkey JavaScript engine. |
